A school app should take into account everything a teacher or a principal needs to make communication easy. Whether you are in the process of building a app for your school or looking for a ready solution, keep in mind these school app features that will make your life super simple.

Having spoken to hundreds of schools and understanding their basic needs, we have come up with a list of must have features in a school app. With these school app features, Schools are bound to increase their productivity by 30%

How? Check these 4 points below.

1. Decluttering Communication with Structure

What a chat platform offers is lack of structure in communication. This leads to communication gap, confusion and poor efficiency for both parents and teachers.

By having separate threads in communication, such as posts, alerts, events and pre-created template section, schools are able to create communication that are relevant and parents are able to receive content that are organised. Therefore they are able to respond and engage better. Be it by means of like, comments or even shares. Look for specific features and functionalities that are required in your app.

Here’s how the POST section in your app on ONNE will look like

Posts are messages you want to share with any of your users. You can send it as a plain text with a Title and a Body copy or simply a text along with picture(s), and or document(s). The length of the body copy can be upto 500 characters including spaces. You can choose to upload pictures from your phone gallery or open the camera function in the Photos icon and click pictures instantly too.

  • School-App

Once you create a post, you can choose who to share it with. It can either be sent to select contacts or all your contacts. If you have created different groups of your contacts already, you will be able to select these specific groups too.

Once you select and send, the post will show in your contacts’ wall.

Your contacts can comment, like and even share your posts on various social media platforms.

2. Prioritising messages to create a sense of urgency

Sharing alerts in a chat platform gets lost amongst other messages. For effective school parent engagement, communication should be made easy. When the school wants to communicate something that is utmost priority or an emergency, the message should reach the student or parent as a highlight so it won't get missed.

Here’s how the Alert section in your app on ONNE will look like

Alerts has the same function as posts, but with limited characters and no attachment. You can write a Title and a Body copy with the body copy no longer than 150 characters. Alerts are used to send short messages such as the ‘School is closed today’ or ‘Parent Teacher Meeting on 10th August’ and so on.

Why should your school have an app?

3. Be in the know and have complete control of your events

Organising events and school activities involves a lot of work. Teachers are burdened in addition to the regular classes they manage. If there is clarity on things like how many people will attend, who has said NO to attend an event and so on, it helps the teachers to organise better.

Here’s how the EVENT section in your app on ONNE will look like

Event is a calendar-based feature that can be used to notify your contacts of any upcoming event or activity you have planned for. Events can be created by any of the admins, and can be open to anyone or to select groups you have created in your app.

This feature allows you to create awareness about any upcoming event since you are able to reach all the contacts on their mobile device. Contacts can see the event name, date, location, venue, timings etc and choose to RSVP. Contacts can choose YES, NO or MAYBE as an option.

If an invitee RSVPs that the are "attending" the event, it appears in their news feed to notify their friends. When the date of the event approaches, it is displayed on the invitees' home pages to remind them.
